Product Manager
Product managers decide what gets built. In a company whose work starts as research, that means holding the line between what is technically possible and what the mission actually needs; shaping capability direction, sequencing what ships first, and staying close enough to operators that the answer is grounded in their problem rather than an assumption about it. This is a rapidly growing function, closer to the engineering than to marketing.
The Work
You’ll own the direction of a product through its lifecycle, from a research prototype to a capability operators depend on. That means deciding what the next increment is and why, based on what the operators tell you rather than what the roadmap said last quarter. You’ll work with engineering teams on feasibility and sequencing, and you’ll be the person who says no to a feature that would be interesting but wrong to build now. You’ll do this under real constraints: what the contract covers, what the customer can accredit, and what an operator can actually be trained to use.
You’ll also carry the internal case for a capability, why it deserves investment, where it fits against what STR already fields, and what the transition path from program of record to product looks like. Along the way, you’ll help define how product management works at STR.

Who You Work With
You’ll work closely with technical leaders, the engineers doing the core work, and other Product Managers on related efforts. You’ll present regularly to division leadership. You’ll sit in customer conversations where the stakes are high and the questions are technical. Your principal investigator or technical lead will be a PhD or a Principal Engineer, someone who knows the domain deeply, and you’ll amplify their thinking by turning it into reality.
What We Look For
Experience managing the development of mature capabilities on government technical programs or in the commercial world, and sufficient technical depth to lead engineers credibly.
