Engineering Roles

Program Manager

Program managers run classified and unclassified programs, holding the line on cost and schedule while staying close enough to the engineering to understand the implications of hard technical choices. Successful program managers either come from engineering or have built enough technical fluency to lead engineers credibly and make sound decisions under pressure.

The Work
You’ll partner with technical leaders to conduct capture conversations with mission owners: What is the threat? What does success look like? What constraints matter? Then you’ll turn those conversations into statements of work a technical team can actually execute. You’ll sit with engineers to understand what is feasible, where the real risk sits, and where cost is hiding. You’ll brief customers with clarity and confidence because you can hold your own in a technical conversation.
Your days will span multiple programs. Some days you’re managing execution: tracking schedule, cost, and technical metrics, and identifying where things may slip and why. Other days, you’re writing a proposal or leading capture for a new opportunity. You’ll coordinate with the technical team, finance, and contracts. Sometimes that means flying to the customer site; sometimes it means working inside a classified environment. You hold people accountable and create the conditions for a multidisciplinary team to do its best work.
Who You Work With
You’ll work closely with technical leaders, the engineers doing the core work, and other PMs managing related efforts. You’ll present regularly to division leadership. You’ll sit in high-stakes customer conversations where the questions are technical. Your principal investigator or technical lead will be a PhD or a Principal Engineer—someone who knows the domain deeply—and you’ll amplify their thinking by turning it into program reality.
What We Look For
Program-management experience on government technical programs, and sufficient technical depth to lead engineers credibly.
