Engineering Roles

RF & Sensors Software Engineer

In this role, you’ll take algorithms from the research bench to the field. You’ll build the real-time signal-acquisition pipelines, embedded systems, and production software that turn radar or EO/IR data into information an operator can use. You work at the boundary between the algorithm researchers handing you prototypes and the customers who deploy your code. Your work is integration: signal processing chains, FPGA interfaces, hardware-coupled software, and the hardening required to move from lab to field.

The Work
You’ll work on real-time RF and sensor systems where the underlying physics is unforgiving. The spectrum is increasingly contested. Sensors mislead in saturated environments. Signals degrade under operational stress. Your job is to build the software infrastructure that still extracts usable information. You’ll work across the stack: signal acquisition, real-time processing in C and C++, integration with hardware and FPGAs, and control systems written in Python and MATLAB. Some of your code will run on embedded processors in the field; some will be optimized in the lab before deployment. When an algorithm is not yet ready for production—too slow, too power-hungry, unstable on real data—you’ll turn that feedback into the next iteration. You’ll have access to real lab equipment—RF chambers, acoustic test beds, prototype hardware—and you’ll work in small teams on problems with weeks-to-months horizons rather than year-long program cycles.
Who You Work With
You’ll work with hardware engineers who design the front ends your software optimizes for, algorithm researchers who hand you prototypes, and systems engineers who integrate everything into missions. Across STR, you’ll collaborate with cyber, analytics, and autonomy teams, wherever the next layer of the mission problem lives.
What We Look For
Strong C and C++ for real-time signal processing, experience integrating software with hardware and FPGAs, and fluency in Python and MATLAB; embedded and lab-to-field experience is valued.
